The XLAB, Göttingen's experimental laboratory for young people, organised two "Transgenic Plants" student camps in 2021/2022 together with the MINT-EC school network and KWS as a business partner, with the aim of giving young people an insight into the objectives and methods of modern plant breeding. In addition to experimenting with various transformation technologies in the laboratory, a knowledge-based discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of green genetic engineering in relation to sustainable agriculture was one of the main focuses of this camp.

More freedom for nature in Einbeck's fairytale forest - KWS supports the project for another three years

Einbeck, 2021-10-28

More space is to be given to biodiversity and species conservation in another area of forest in the Einbeck municipal forest. This is a positive signal for biotope and species protection. After almost two years, it has now been clear since September 2021 that the fairytale forest will be expanded. This positive decision is a signal of the importance the town of Einbeck attaches to the biodiversity strategy in the forest.

Future Day 2021 - Training at KWS at a glance

Einbeck, 2021-04-22

Dear students, The future and training of young people are important to KWS as an international plant breeding company with roots in southern Lower Saxony. That is why we would like to give you an insight into the various exciting professional fields from IT to mechanics, electronics and commercial professions to plant technology. Last spring, the planned Future Day (Girls' Day and Boys' Day) had to be cancelled at short notice due to the coronavirus pandemic. Face-to-face events are not yet possible again this year either, as the prevention of a possible spread of infection remains the top priority. The state of Lower Saxony is therefore focussing on digital offerings and the Ministry of Education has called on companies to offer pupils a corresponding format as an alternative to the conventional Future Day.

A children's hiking map for the Einbeck forest – KWS supports the "Waldzwerge" kindergarten project

Einbeck, 2021-03-31

The signs with the "forest gnome" show the way through the Einbeck city forest: families can plan their next visit to the forest on the Hube on a new children's hiking map. Which paths are there? Which ones are also suitable for pushchairs? Which places are there between Schwarzer Hütte, Köhlerhütte and Hubeparkplatz where you can take a break and learn a lot of new things? All of this is shown on the new forest map for children, which the "Waldzwerge" forest kindergarten has designed over the past few months.

Plant breeding in the lab - MINT-EC student camp - XLAB participants visit KWS

Einbeck, 2021-02-17

The objectives and methods of modern plant breeding were the topic of the MINT-EC camp "Transgenic Plants", which was held at the XLAB - Göttingen Experimental Laboratory for Young People in autumn 2020. The participating students in grades 11-13 were released from lessons by their schools. Such MINT-EC schools throughout Germany have anchored the promotion of scientific excellence in their school profile and are certified for this. KWS in Einbeck, whose research and development department the participants visited during a half-day excursion, acted as a business partner for the camp.
