For more than a year now, the Einbecker BürgerSpital (EBS) has also been offering specialist expertise in spinal complaints. In cooperation with PD Dr Bawarjan Schatlo, Abdelhalim Hussein (both Northeim) and Dr Karin Rieckmann (Göttingen), operations are also carried out here in particularly serious cases. To date, Dr Schatlo and his team have worked at EBS on two days. Since the beginning of the month, another neurosurgical specialist (Dr Thomas Brandsch) has joined the team around Dr Schatlo in order to meet the needs of the region.
The KWS is enabling BürgerSpital to not only expand the equipment and instruments used in spinal surgery for around 200,000 euros, but also to strengthen the operations of the long-established trauma surgery department led by Head Physician Andrej Illenseer. Both departments already work closely together. For the neurosurgeons, the sponsorship means that even more complex procedures can now be performed.
"What we had hoped for is already proving true after just under a year: the cooperation with PD Dr Schatlo and his team is very refreshing for all surgical disciplines and is an excellent addition to our medical portfolio. And I am delighted that we can now respond even better to the needs of our patients with chronic or acute back problems thanks to the financial support from KWS," emphasises Frederic Lazar, Managing Director of Einbecker BürgerSpital.
