Our ambition in vegetables is to be a supplier in top quality varieties

In 2019, we put together a team of vegetable seed specialists that, with an adventurous and pioneering spirit, will build an organization and its activities towards a significant position in markets around the globe.

This ambition expands the existing KWS portfolio into a market that has a long-term outlook of growth through drivers as trends move towards a sustainable and healthier diet.

We will make step-by-step investments in the years to come by working together with experts and companies who share our values and drive for high quality.

In doing so, we will follow a three pillar approach: organic growth, accompanied by the sale of licensed commercial varieties and selective acquisitions.

For more than 160 years, we have been developing very successful varieties of agricultural plants. This competency will now help to build up the new business activity in vegetables.

Developing a diverse vegetable portfolio with selected partners

In order to meet the different needs of growers around the globe, we are teaming up with selected partners in various countries.

We will combine our efforts and develop future varieties within our international breeding network to keep expanding our crop range.

Currently, we can already offer high-quality varieties for crops such as spinach, red beet, swiss chard, and beans.

For the future we are focusing on tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, watermelons, and melons, which are the five most important vegetable crops around the world.

Our focus in breeding vegetables is to equip plants with a high tolerance to abiotic stress and minimize the use of resources such as water and chemicals in growing them.

Developing an international breeding network

Our ambition in vegetables is to be a supplier in top quality varieties. Therefore, our Headquarters is located at the campus of the famous Wageningen University, a world leader in Agricultural Research and Education. Another important breeding site is located in Andijk, at the very heart of Seed Valley, the center of plant breeding in northwestern Netherlands. At both locations, skilled workers and experienced breeders and researchers are collaborating in order to become the best in the vegetable seed industry.

In addition to our sites in the Netherlands, we are establishing state-of-the-art breeding stations in Southern Europe, Asia, and Latin America, By exchanging knowledge and experience with our specialists across the globe and by reaching out to partners from regional companies and professional institutions, the most effective breeding programs are being designed to develop top quality vegetable varieties.
