Many prizes for the young researchers

Einbeck, 13.4.2024

The 21st Lower Saxony state competition Jugend forscht/Schüler experimentieren came to a successful conclusion at PS.SPEICHER in Einbeck.

The 21st Lower Saxony state competition “Jugend forscht/Schüler experimentieren” came to an end this afternoon with an exciting ceremony at PS.SPEICHER in Einbeck. After two intensive days in which the 74 young researchers presented and explained their 44 scientific projects several times to the members of an interdisciplinary jury, the winners were announced today. First, second and third prizes were awarded in seven subject areas (working world, biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology), as well as numerous high-quality special prizes.

Valentina Holle, the state competition director responsible for the proper implementation of the popular competition, emphasized at the ceremony with regard to all the young researchers: “You are the main characters - not just today, but in the Jugend forscht competition as a whole. The motto “We promote talents” is all about you, you are the talents! You competed against each other here in Einbeck after winning a total of eight regional competitions with 234 projects in the “Schüler experimentieren” age category! Congratulations!”

Stephan Krings, Head of Global Marketing & Communications at KWS, and Lothar Meyer-Mertel, Managing Director of PS.SPEICHER, were very impressed by the young researchers' projects in their entertaining speech to the guests. “The contributions we have seen here are a precise reflection of the issues that are currently of pressing concern to the whole world: Nature, the environment, climate protection, healthy eating, energy, mobility - to name just a few,” said Lothar Meyer-Mertel. Stephan Krings added that the solutions proposed by the young scientists, their curiosity and visionary power were very encouraging for the future: “Against this background, we are very confident that your generation will master the many challenges that lie ahead of us.” KWS and PS.SPEICHER have been sponsoring the state competition for three years. This year's guest speaker was Prof. Metin Tolan, President of Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, who took to the stage in the PS.Halle: “‘Jugend forscht’ is the competition that marked the beginning of many researchers' careers. This shows how important it is to get young people interested in science. I would therefore like to thank all the participants and the organizers,” he said.

For the young researchers aged between nine and 15, the competition ends with their participation in Einbeck. The older Jugend forscht participants (up to the age of 21) already presented their projects in Clausthal-Zellerfeld a few weeks ago.

For the winners there, the competition will end with the national final in Heilbronn from May 30 to June 2, 2024.
