From the field: Grazing fodderbeet
SMART JOSINA KWS
With a bulb DM of 20%, SMART JOSINA has performed well in the 2023/24 growing season with yields ranging from 22t DM/ha to 30t DM/ha.
For grazing, experience indicates that it is probably best to reduce the seed rate of JOSINA (80 – 90,000 seeds per ha). This allows for fewer but larger roots. Overall, we have seen excellent utilisation, in particular from mixed-aged dairy cows
SMART JOSINA has reasonable leaf disease resistance though practice shows there is benefit from a timely leaf fungicide application.
SMART JOSINA KWS is a grazing fodderbeet variety and is available as part of the CONVISO®SMART system. All photos on this page have been taken from winter grazing of JOSINA in winter 2024 throughout the South Island.
