Field trials internship

KWS continuously offers internships on a full-time basis at our breeding station in Seligenstadt near Würzburg. The typical duration of the paid internships is at least two months, preferably longer, in the period between April to November.

Students (f/m/d) gain initial work experience in practical field trials in the crops sugarbeet, cereals, oil seed rape, corn and/or catch crops, in one or more of the following topics:

  • Maintenance of the breeding yard
  • Yield trials
  • Seed production
  • Data analysis
  • Use of special machinery for plant breeding

The internship

Your tasks can be

  • Manual and mechanical maintenance of the trials
  • Trait-scoring and all technical tasks related to plant breeding
  • Practical work during the harvest of trial fields
  • Preparation and sowing of trial seeds
  • Participation in training events at the breeding station
  • Support of the team at external locations if necessary

Your profile

  • Student (undergraduate or graduate) in agriculture, agronomy, horticulture or related fields (or technician for agriculture)

  • Strong interest in practical plant breeding

  • Resistance to outdoor work under different weather conditions

  • Willing to work extra hours during peak season

  • Cooperation and team spirit

  • Willing to travel to external locations with short-term stays

  • Very good knowledge of German and basic knowledge of English would be an advantage

  • Class B and T driving licence is desirable (car & tractor)
